It is days like today that makes me appreciate what I do. I got to see first hand a cultural spectacle from half way around the world.
Moravian Days was one colorful event to say the least. Filled with hand made costumes and lavish dancing, the footage was vivid and eye popping.
The footage is going to be used for a feature length documentary for PBS in Chicago. The film will cover Czechs in Chicago. From what the producer was telling me, it seems PBS likes to create documentaries covering an ethnic group in major cities and it’s time for the Czechs.
It was a joy shooting tight shots of the dresses twirling around as the vivid colors went across the lens. It was two hours of dance, drinks and celebration.
In just a few hours, I learned a great deal about a culture I rarely had any exposure to in the past. Sure, I’m just covering things from behind the lens, but the lens has a lot to teach if you look carefully.
(Video will be posted once it’s been edited. These are screen shots from the footage and iphone pic behind the camera)
