Second City brings another one home!

It was the year I went to prom that I first went to second city. I remember laughing out loud during the entire show. I never thought several years later, I would be working with them. For the last couple of years, I’ve had the chance to work on numerous second city productions from filming a main stage play to shooting high-end commercials for clients such as Old Navy, Hanes and Walmart. This week I got a chance to work on a shoot at Resolution Digital Studio.

We had three setups and luckily, Resolution offers a variety of sets, so it was a perfect location. Set one was a kitchen set and we had a mock cocking show that was hilarious. I actually think it could make for a funny cooking show.

My camera was assigned to shoot the overhead shot. So we rigged it up to a pipe and I operated with the remote control. I felt a little lazy, but the shot was great.
We picked up cross coverage of the two actors once we had enough over head shot. The other two cameras were set for the wide two shot and the close up coverage of the host.

The second set was on the main stage. It was already pre-lite by the lighting crew while we were shooting in the kitchen set. Lots of extras on hand for this one. I was covering the coach on the close-up while the other two cameras were hand held picking up coverage.

The third set was on the other side of the main stage at RDS and it was a lighting masterpiece. I don’t know how long it took for the lighting crew (5 guys) to do this, but it was amazing. It was a mock dating show and I had the close up shot of the host. Even the heart on the floor was a lighting pattern.

The shoot was overall very entertaining and we shot everything on schedule. Can’t wait for the next one.
